About David Emerson CBE - Current

My current portfolio

Alongside leading seminars on aspects of managing and governing charitable foundations , I am Chair of the Longleigh Foundation and the Independent Director on the Board of the Alex Ferry Foundation.

My chairing of the National Conference for the Institute of Fundraisers received excellent feedback:

  • "David was very articulate and knowledgeable without being overbearing"
  • "One of the best Chairs I have encountered, his summing up with nine points was first class"
  • "Superb projection, on the ball, funny and kept it all together"

Alongside my professional work:

Since 2014 I have been Chair of ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) which is the national membership body for the network of 38 county based rural community councils. Previous voluntary roles have included as Chair of the Equity West End Deputies Committee; as a Trustee of NCVO; and as Treasurer of DAFNE (Donors and Foundation Network, Europe). Currently I also support our local village hall, and produce the biennial village pantomime.

As an experienced public speaker, I have undertaken frequent radio, and some television, appearances both professionally and for the books above. Between 2010 & 16, I chaired conference sessions and events across Europe for the European Foundation Centre.

My early landscape design training has also left me with a good visual and spatial awareness, as well as sound environmental awareness and understanding

“David has been one of those trusted people I know I can go to for insight, support and good counsel, both for me as a professional and for the foundations where I have worked.”

“David, we have benefitted enormously from your wise guidance, calm judgement and patient diplomacy.”

“Thank you for all your assistance to the Cass Foundation over the years, especially when I sought your advice having set up the Schools Funding Network in 2012 and more recently regarding the Government’s Right to Buy Policy.”

“It has been such a pleasure to have you around the SGM’s table for all of these years bringing us the up to date news on happenings in the charity world across the UK. Your charm and aplomb has made you a welcome guest at the annual residential and the effort you have made to join us in some of Scotland’s most remote places has always been appreciated.”

“Your knowledge, insights, networks and understanding of critical issues impacting Trusts and Foundations now and in the future has been most valuable.”

“The moment I joined the Education Endowment Foundation five years ago, I was told there was one person I simply had to talk to: David at ACF. How right they were.”
